Rødekro to Varnæs, Day 1

A short day 28km day. After taking the train from Copenhagen to Rødekro, stopped by in Aabenraa before following the Tour de France route out towards Sønderborg.

The forest between Rødekro and Aabenraa was perhaps the best off-road there was between Esbjerg and Copenhagen with reasonable slopes and fast winding tracks.

Aabenraa is a pretty town centre raised slightly away from the harbour front. Plenty of decorations prior to the visit of the Tour de France.

 We’d originally planned to camp at Varnæs Hoved, but relatives of friends offered to put us up overnight after we noted the weather forecast: torrential rain all night and part of the next day.
