Description

Lønstrup, Skallerup and Nørlev Strand villages are key destinations for summer house tourism on the west coast. Today you’ll follow mainly gravel tracks between the villages getting good views of the countless wooden buildings in modern and classic styles where people come to get away from everyday life.

The big stop of the day is the port town of Hirtshals from where you can get ferries to Norway, the Faroes and Iceland. There’s also the open-air bunkers of the Atlantic Wall up by the lighthouse.

After Hirtshals there are gravel tracks through forests for mile after mile, interrupted only by the summer house village of Tversted.

Overnight

Østerklit Stokmølle is an old mill built as part of a barn (in fact restored after a fire). But close to it is a series of shelters and open ground for camping. There’s a lot of space here and it can get quite popular e.g. there’s no guarantee of a place in the shelters, but you’ll definitely have a place for a tent. There’s also fresh water and toilets at the mill building.

This place is stunningly beautiful with the campsite overlooking the mill towards the ocean.
