Aarhus to Odsherred, Day 6

  • 300 m climbing

  • 39.95 km

Fast Ferries

I think the best way to get from Jutland to Zealand is the 75 minute journey on the giant catamaran ferries between Aarhus and Odsherred. They used to be much more conveniently located for foot (and to some extent cycle) passengers because the dock they used was very close to the centre of Aarhus. However they’re now relocated quite a few km away to the furthest end of the furthest harbour zone; you can’t get there on public transport (no buses) so cycling is as good a way as any.

You pass by Dokk1, a cultural centre on the way to the ferries.

We followed Team Rynkeby (a charity cycle team that cycles from Copenhagen to Paris every year around the time of Tour De France; however due to Covid they were now cycling around Denmark, in the rain of course).

Monster power.

Odsherred: Summer house land

Odsherred is the land of summer houses and our route today took us past perhaps half of them. Generally following gravel and double track trails snaking in and out of fields and summer house areas.

There’s hundreds of cycle friendly routes through Odsherred towards Holbæk from where there’s a few different routes to Copenhagen.

Looking down on beaches at Tengslemark and Gudmindrup

Coming on to the beach by Gudmindrup - can really recommend it on a good day.

Høve. The Tour De France will climb this hill in 2022; my bike by this time was starting to fall apart (needed a new chain) so we walked up rather than put more strain on the bike (and ourselves).

Almost home, a typical gravel road between summer houses.

Overnight

We stayed at our own summer house, but there’s thousands to choose from in Odsherred plus some good hotels such as the 800 year old Dragsholm Castle.
